funerals

If you are recently bereaved my thoughts are with you.

When someone dies it can be overwhelming. There are so many decisions to be made you can easily feel you are struggling to know what to do and the organisation of the funeral is a huge responsibility that comes when you least need it.

If you are at that stage do give me a call – I am happy to provide advice and I won’t try to sell you anything.

Humanist funerals and memorials are for people who were non-religious or agnostic and focus on celebrating the life they lived. These ceremonies can take place in many different settings, including – crematoria, cemeteries, natural burial grounds, pubs, clubs, restaurants, and open spaces – anywhere that has resonance for the bereaved.

As a celebrant it’s my job to help you decide on the kind of ceremony you want, traditional or unconventional and help make it happen. I am open-minded and non-judgemental, and I take pride in helping families achieve a sense of having done justice to the memory of their loved one.

Each ceremony starts with a phone call or conversation with no obligation.

I will then send a questionnaire to gather basic information and some prompts for a family meeting.

At the meeting I will collect more information and we can plan your event, who will contribute and how it will feel.

We will then prepare and share scripts for the day checking the content and how long each element will last. If needed I can help with suggestions for poetry or music.

On the day I will lead the service co-ordinating with the Funeral Director to make sure that all runs smoothly, and to leave you free to concentrate on family, friends and remembering the person who had died.
